Extension Aftercare

How to protect your investment & keep your hair beautiful longer. Hair extensions are an investment in both beauty and confidence.
With the right aftercare, they can stay soft, seamless, and healthy for months.
No matter the method, tape-ins, mesh integration, curly extensions, or volume systems - the way you care for your extensions at home matters just as much as the installation itself.

Proper aftercare protects your natural hair, the integrity of the extension method, the lifespan of your extensions, the longevity of your install and our overall results. Beautiful extensions aren’t just about the install—they’re about how you live with them.

The Golden Rule: Wet Hair Is Fragile

Hair is at its most vulnerable when wet. Sleeping, pulling, or creating tension on damp roots can lead to breakage, shedding, and premature wear - especially with extensions. Always dry your roots. Every time.

DO’s ✔️

  • Blow-dry your roots after every wash

You don’t need a perfect blowout, but your roots should always be completely dry. This prevents tension, slipping,                matting, and unnecessary stress on your natural hair.

  • Wash gently

Massage your scalp softly - no aggressive scrubbing or piling hair on top of your head.

  • Use extension-safe, sulfate-free products

Hydration is key, but avoid heavy products at the roots.

  • Hold the hair at the root when brushing

Support the extension base to avoid pulling on your natural hair.

  • Sleep smart

Dry hair only. Use a bonnet, or silk (or satin) pillowcase and loosely braid or tie hair before bed.

  •  Wash every 3–7 days (unless advised otherwise)

Over-washing can cause dryness and reduce longevity

DON’TS ✖️

  • Never go to bed with wet hair

This is one of the fastest ways to cause breakage and matting.

  • Don’t apply conditioner or masks at the roots or attachment points

Keep conditioning products mid-lengths to ends only.

  • Avoid styling upside down

This creates tangling and stress where the extensions are attached.

  •  Don’t use excessive heat

Low to medium heat always. Extensions don’t regenerate like natural hair.

  •  Avoid oils near the scalp

They can cause slipping and buildup over time.

Curly Extension Care

Curly extensions require extra moisture, but also structure.

  • Detangle with fingers, a wide tooth comb, or specific curl brush only when wet to avoid frizz

  • Use leave-in conditioner on mid-lengths and ends

  • Fully dry the roots with a regular nozzle, then diffuse or air-dry curls with your favorite product

  • Never sleep with damp curls

  • Before stepping into the shower, make sure to brush everything through using a boar bristle brush. Brush all your natural hair on the crown area and clip away. Continue in sections. Start from the bottom and brush your way up, making sure you brush over the roots as well. Clip up and repeat until you have brushed through everything. Only do this when the hair is completely dry.
